At the top of my bibliography, BBase says "Undefined (6192)" where 6192 is the number of entries in my bib.  What is "undefined"?  Is it because I use biblatex format and "date" instead of "year"?

Yes, probably. The default grouping/sort order is by year and any entry that doesn't have a year field will be grouped under undefined.

By the way, 6000 entries is a *lot*! Do you really want your users to look through all that? You might be interested in using filters to provide different views.

Ah.  "date" is the default with Biblatex, and is processed much more powerfully than "year".

Yes, I think my db is too big, though BibBase does actualy do a great job.  It was really just an experiment because I've been looking for something more substantial than JabRef's HTML output.

I'll think on what I really want.  But thank you for BibBase, which is a great achievement - sophisticated yet easy to use.

Best,
